I traveled to Orlando Florida over the weekend with the family.  My youngest son wanted to have an up close and personal conversation with the Mouse.  We considered staying at a Disney Resort but were convinced by Mr. Eric Alboher, CEO of Black History Tours that Gaylord Resort and Convention Center was the best option bar none.  Although I had stayed at the Gaylord in the past, I thought the kids would have more fun at one of the Disney themed resorts.  Nonetheless, we decided to stay at the Gaylord.

In a word, the Gaylord Resort is “Perfect.”  From the moment the hotel becomes visible from the roadway you can’t help but feel a bit of awe.  As we drove up to the property, any doubt that we had made the right decision had all but disappeared.  The hotel is absolutely breathtaking.  As I entered the lobby to check in I noticed that every person that I saw—staff and visitors, was smiling.  The atmosphere was so warm and welcoming that I found myself smiling too.    Although we had stayed here before, I found myself looking around as if it were my first visit.  From the floral arrangements to the foliage, the ponds to the waterfalls, and the fish to the alligators, to the cave-like tunnels, there is so much to see!  My son was sold on the hotel before he had the chance to see the pool or the game room.

Although we stayed in a Deluxe Suite, a standard room in this hotel is an automatic upgrade.  For here, there is no such thing as standard.   Our room was gorgeous.  We had an atrium view from our balcony.  The view alone was priceless.  The calming sounds of the waterfalls made this a quiet and relaxing retreat from the rest of the family—even if for a moment.

We took the hotel bus to the Disney parks.  This was an amenity included in the price of the stay.  After spending the day enjoying the shows, rides and other attractions, we announced to the kids that it was time to head back.  My six-year old smiled gleefully and shouted “Yes!  We’re going back to the hotel!”  I can’t say for certain, but I’ll bet the kids that stayed over at the Disney Resorts weren’t this excited to leave the park.
